In Campus Solutions’ 2nd annual environmental trends and activities review on college campuses this year and for Earth Day ’10, it is encouraging to learn that by 2010, the majority of campuses have engaged in various programs promoting either environmental awareness, sustainability, research, education or outreach.  Campuses continue to be at the forefront of environmental stewardship.  But during the current economic conditions, how have university funded green initiatives been affected?  The higher education system budget cut crisis has limited funding several university programs promoting environmental change.

But there is good news.  College students are responsible for influencing schools to implement environmental programs by lobbying for environmental causes.  Students continue to evoke change within their communities and on campuses around the country.  And higher ed institutions acknowledged that although budgets have been slashed, there is a continued support toward environmental programs, activities, initiatives and outreach.
