Harness the youth vote: Democrats target college students

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

In what is certain to be another close presidential election, the Democratic Party is hoping that a large turnout among young adults will solidify Barack Obama’s presidential nomination.  America’s youth has been particularly passionate for Barack Obama and the Party hopes that this election, young people will come out and vote in numbers.  With just over two months before the general election, a concentrated push to reach the 18-29 year old demographic is underway.

Campus Solutions, Inc., a premiere campus event marketing company specializing in reaching the college student demographic, is providing opportunities for both political parties to target the college vote.  The strategy is to cultivate relationship with key influencer networks and drive college students to the polls.

As students are making their way back to school, Campus Solutions’s experienced college street teams will be targeting colleges and universities in swing states with on-campus interactive promotions and off-campus events.  Text messaging campaigns, college newspaper advertising and campus posterings are also great methods to reach college students.

Co-sponsored events may also be available with a number of groups on both the left and right which have a strong presence on campuses.  Some of the groups on the left might include College Dems, United States Student Association, and Young Democrats of America.  On the right, the College Reps are extremely well organized on college campuses.

College Athletic Promotions: Sampling

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Many small and large companies are firm believers in sampling to their ideal demographic.  And customers agree there is less buyer’s resistance once they’ve tried a product initially before buying.  As a way to reach college athletes, Campus Solutions is providing companies with the opportunity to reach physically fit college men and women by providing on-campus sampling events through the student recreation centers and the intramural fields.

The College Athlete: Student Recreation Centers

Through our network of faculty, your product will be sampled to each male and female student as they enter the sports complex - as they prepare for their grueling workouts.  Campus Solutions can capitalize on this stream of students by providing a product that they can rely on and sample at a time they need it most.

The College Athlete: Intramural Fields

Intramural sports fields attract athletic-minded students who participate in school sports, offering an ideal environment to sample products geared towards athletes.  Reaching students through the IM leagues allows you to reach a highly-concentrated group of student athletes.  The goal here is to capture a broad group of athletes and provide them with your product after their practice or game.

Campus Solutions is recognized for creating effective college advertising opportunities that target specific niches within the college student demographic.  For more information, please visit Campus Solutions’s website at www.campussolutionsinc.com or feel free to reach Bryan Carbone directly at Bryan.

College newspaper advertising

Monday, June 30th, 2008

College newspaper advertising continues to be one of the most effective methods to reach college students.  A recent survey found that 82% of the respondents regularly read their campus paper.  The study also found that students positively respond to college newspaper ads with nearly 80% reacting to an ad or editorial.  The college newspaper industry continues to grow as a media outlet in readership and in advertising dollars with more and more marketers recognizing the inherent value.

Coupons and promotional codes generate the best response with a higher percentage of college women taking advantage of coupons and discounts.  Another option to consider is college newspaper inserts which can be a great college marketing medium to promote an upcoming event or online promotion.

Campus Solutions provide our clients with opportunities to reach 11.5 million college students in over 2,000 college newspapers.  College newspaper advertising is a great media outlet to target the college student demographic and we encourage companies to take advantage of our college newspaper placement services- whether via college newspapers or college newspaper inserts.  For more information, please feel free to visit Campus Solutions Inc.’s website at www.campussolutionsinc.com or reach Bryan Carbone directly at Bryan.

Facebook - best branded social network option

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Social networking and web 2.0 social sites have for good reason, become an essential component of a brand’s youth marketing strategy. Recently, a debate has erupted over which is the smarter option: a social network created by a brand and its marketing arm or taking advantage of Facebook and MySpace’s existing multi-million member network. In a recent post by Adam Ostrow of Mashable.com, “Is a Facebook Page a Complete Social Media Strategy,” http://mashable.com/2008/06/05/social-media-strategy/ the author explains Verizon’s recent move from Verizon Community to a Verizon Facebook page.

Users are reluctant to join a separate social network for even their favorite brands, cause or promotion. Another disadvantage to a brand’s network or a brand ambassador social network is that students are expected to sign up friends and other students as new members of the site, a huge turn off to students. Facebook members simply sign up via a News Feed and Invite.

Moving into the 2008-2009 school year, Campus Solutions, one of the country’s leading college marketing companies specializing in on-campus media, college event marketing and spring break promotions, will be helping brands spread their presence on the internet by developing Facebook campaigns targeting the college student demographic. Simply developing a Facebook Page or Event is not enough without having a built-in core group of students (specific niches within the college student demographic, targeted DMAs or campuses). Utilizing our network of college athletics, fraternities and sororities and student groups provides opportunities for brands to implement a successful Facebook campaign and brand ambassadorship program.
